Changelog
Significant changes are events are recorded in the changelog.
Version and Major Change Upgrades
Do these in the off-season and isolate major changes to one per day. This makes problem detection and restore operations easier to manage.
WordPress
NOTE: Admin privs are granted to your WordPress Account.
The main reasons to use the WordPress admin privs:
- Manage new accounts and privileges: Nebraska Senior Softball > Dashboard > Appearance > Menus
- Change the menu system: Nebraska Senior Softball > Dashboard > Users
- Change the home page: Customize
Upgrade Notes
- WordPress upgrades have all gone smoothly
- Plug-in upgrades don’t always go smoothly. The FT calendar upgrade caused a big problem.
- An attempted theme upgrade caused a major problem. Had to revert back by doing a complete restore of all files.
iPage
NOTE: Admin credentials provide access to the iPage admin features.
Normally, there’s not a whole lot of admin work to do. About the only thing is to upgrade PHP every few years to stay compatible with the latest versions of WordPress. Occasionally the website will go down and we’ll have to call iPage support.
Hosting Notes
- You will get many email warnings and notices about domain and hosting renewals from iPage; but, for the last few years, all renewals have been executed automatically. We’ve plugged in the NSS PayPal credentials into iPage and we haven’t had to do anything manual to keep the ball rolling.
Upgrade Notes
- PHP upgrades usually result in better performance; but, sometimes break the code. Need to check the main dynamic pages to insure the upgrade didn’t generate regression errors.
