Omaha-based Midwest Legends defeated Colorado’s Scrap Iron 16-13 to win the 75-year-old division (AAA) of the Winter Worlds Championships held in Phoenix, Arizona from November 12th through 14th. This was the third National Championship for the Express team this year following their triumph at the SSUSA Tournament of Champions held in Lakeland, Florida, in February and The Softball Players Association (SPA) World Championships held Dalton, Georgia in September.
The Express claimed the title by winning 6 of 7 games while posting a .662 team batting average including 10 inside-the-park homeruns (including 5 by Marvin Carr). As the only team east of the Rockies, Midwest Legends played undefeated verses all California, Arizona and Colorado teams in the 75s division.
In addition to the championship trophy and apparel, Senior Softball recognized Midwest’s All-Tournament players Marvin Carr, Larry Stolte, Ron Peterson, Ed Rastovski, and Ed Tworek (Manager).
Nebraska Senior Softball players are Duke Burgess, Bob Kubat, Ed Rastoski and Ed Tworek. Express players from Nebraska have now won national championships in each of the 60s, 65s, 70s and 75s divisions.
